"What is Capoeira for me?  Capoeira is what I am.
It is my life philosophy. Through the art of Capoeira,
I have learned about life and freedom. Because of Capoeira, I stay in contact with my ancestors
and my culture. It keeps my body and mind healthy
and gives me a strong connection with my spirit so
that I am able to enjoy every moment of what Life
has to offer me. Capoeira has given me such
tremendous respect for Life and has kept me
focused in my journey to be a better human being."

The Capoeira Center of New York, Inc. has recently been awarded funding by the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council to conduct the New Design High Capoeira Project.  This project will take place at New Design High School located on the Lower East Side of Manhattan.  High school students who are in danger of failing high school due to a lack of physical education credits will be offered the opportunity to participate in the New Design High Capoeira Project.  The Capoeira Center is currently seeking additional funding to meet its obligations to match the city funding by a 1:1 ratio.  Please contact the Center if you or your company
is interested in becoming a sponsor of the New Design High Capoeira Project.  Volunteers are also welcome!
This project is made possible in part with public funds from Creative Curricula, supported by the New York State Council on the Arts’ Local Capacity Building Program and administered by the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council.
